Edmonton Single Tooth Implant Specialists
A single tooth implant replaces one missing tooth with a small post set in the jaw and a custom crown on top. If you are weighing an Edmonton single-tooth implant, here is how we handle it at Vivid Specialized Dentistry.

Is a single implant
the right fit for
one missing tooth?
A single implant is usually the right choice when one tooth is missing or failing and the teeth on either side are healthy. That might be a molar lost to a deep crack, a front tooth knocked out in a fall, or a recent extraction you would rather not leave as a gap.
A traditional dental bridge is still a sound option for some people, and we offer both. The practical difference is that a bridge needs the neighbouring teeth reshaped to hold it in place, while an implant leaves them untouched. If keeping healthy teeth as they are matters to you, an implant is usually what we recommend.
If you are missing two or more teeth, or several in a row, the plan changes a little.
The
process
at Vivid Specialized Dentistry
Replacing one tooth with an implant happens in stages: a specialist consultation, digital planning, implant placement, a healing period, and then the custom crown.
Consultation and records
Your first visit runs 60 to 90 minutes and includes photographs, a bite analysis, and a close look at the gap, the bone height, and the gum around it. Dr. Sumar may recommend a CBCT scan or digital models when the case calls for it (billed separately), then presents your options and an estimate at a follow-up consultation.
Planning the tooth before the implant
We map the crown first and the implant second. Using Primescan digital impressions, CBCT imaging, and guided planning software, the implant position is chosen to support the tooth you want, not simply the bone that happens to be there.
Placement
One of our periodontists places the implant in a single appointment, with bone grafting alongside it or ahead of it if the bone has thinned. Conscious sedation and general anesthesia are both available.
Healing, then the crown
The implant needs time to bond with the bone before it can carry a tooth. Once it has, we attach a connector piece (the abutment) and seat a crown made in our in-house lab, where fit and shade adjustments happen the same day instead of weeks later.
Why have specialists place one implant?
At Vivid Specialized Dentistry, every single tooth implant is planned by a board-certified prosthodontist and placed by a periodontist, at our Edmonton clinic. One tooth sounds like a small job, but it is the one your tongue and your bite will notice if it is even slightly off.
A prosthodontist designs the tooth
Dr. Arif Sumar is a Canadian Board-Certified Specialist in Prosthodontics with over 14 years of experience and more than 5,000 dental implants restored. His specialty is the planning: how the new tooth should sit, meet the opposing tooth, and hold up years from now.
Periodontists handle the surgery
Dr. Nazia Abrol and Dr. Mo Omar are periodontists, the specialists trained in the bone and gum tissue an implant depends on. Bone grafting, soft tissue grafting, and long-term gum health around the implant are their day-to-day work.
The crown is made in our own lab
Our in-house laboratory designs and mills the crown using CAD/CAM technology, with the prosthodontist and the technician looking at the same case together, so the crown matches its neighbours in shape and colour.
Care that continues after the crown
We follow a specialized hygiene and maintenance protocol for implant patients, and our periodontists treat inflammation around implants (peri-implantitis) if it ever develops.
What does a single tooth implant cost in
Edmonton?
The cost of a single implant depends on whether bone grafting is needed, the type of crown, and the sedation you choose, so we give you a written estimate after your consultation rather than a number online. To keep it manageable, we offer 0% financing for up to 24 months and long-term plans with smaller monthly payments through Beautifi. We accept Sun Life Financial, Canada Life, Alberta Blue Cross, Green Shield Canada, and the Canadian Dental Care Plan, along with cash and credit card.
Your Implant
Specialists
Your implant is planned and restored by a board-certified prosthodontist. Dr. Arif Sumar (BSc, DMD, FRCDC) holds a Certificate of Advanced Study in Prosthodontics from the University of Pittsburgh, has restored more than 5,000 dental implants across 14 years of practice, and taught at the University of Alberta Implant Clinic from 2013 to 2025. He works alongside prosthodontist Dr. Alisha Amlani (BDS, CAGS, Boston University), who holds a faculty position at the University of Alberta. Placement and any bone grafting are handled by periodontists Dr. Nazia Abrol (MSc Periodontology) and Dr. Mo Omar (PhD Periodontology). Meet the specialists behind your care.
Single Tooth Implants
FAQs
How much does a single tooth implant cost?
There is no single price because the implant, any grafting, the crown, and sedation are quoted based on your case. You will receive a written estimate at your treatment consultation, and 0% financing for up to 24 months through Beautifi is available if you would rather spread the cost out.
Am I a candidate if I lost the tooth years ago?
Often, yes. Bone tends to shrink where a tooth has been missing for a while, but our periodontists can rebuild it with bone grafting before or during placement. Many patients who were told they did not have enough bone are still candidates once a specialist looks at the scan.
How long does the whole process take?
Plan on a few months from placement to final crown, because the implant needs time to fuse with the bone before it can bear chewing force. Grafting adds healing time to the front end, and we map out your timeline at the consultation.
Will my insurance cover an Edmonton single tooth implant?
Some plans cover part of the implant or the crown, and coverage varies widely. We accept Sun Life Financial, Canada Life, Alberta Blue Cross, Green Shield Canada, and the Canadian Dental Care Plan, and our team can help you find out what your plan pays before you commit.
What is recovery like after the implant is placed?
Most people are back to their routine within a day or two, with soreness and swelling that eases over the first week. Guided planning keeps placement as minimally invasive as possible, and keeping the gum around the implant clean during healing is the main job on your end.
