Edmonton dental bone grafting by specialists
Our periodontists rebuild jawbone lost to a missing tooth or gum disease, so a dental implant or natural tooth has firm support.

Maybe you're missing a tooth and unsure whether an implant is possible, or you're facing an extraction. At Vivid Specialized Dentistry, Edmonton dental bone grafting starts with finding out whether you need a graft.
What does a dental bone graft do, and when might you need one?
A dental bone graft gives your body a framework to grow new jawbone that can hold a dental implant or steady a tooth. You might need one:
- After tooth loss: Bone shrinks where a tooth is missing, sometimes too far to hold an implant.
- When a tooth comes out: Socket preservation fills the empty socket so the ridge keeps its width.
- In the upper back jaw: A sinus lift adds bone beneath the sinus floor, giving an implant enough height.
Planning your graft around the tooth it will support
We plan each bone graft backward from the final tooth, so new bone forms where your implant needs it. Your prosthodontist designs the tooth on a digital scan, and a CBCT scan shows where the bone falls short.
Our periodontists, Dr. Nazia Abrol and Dr. Mo Omar, perform grafts at our Windermere office. A 3D-printed surgical guide carries that plan into implant surgery, including full-arch All-on-X cases.
Guided bone and tissue regeneration for implant sites and natural teeth
Guided bone regeneration (GBR) and guided tissue regeneration (GTR) place a thin membrane over the treated area, keeping faster-growing gum tissue out while bone regrows.
Guided bone regeneration (GBR)
GBR rebuilds a narrow jaw ridge during implant surgery or ahead of it.
Guided tissue regeneration (GTR)
GTR helps regrow the bone and attachment that gum disease has broken down around a natural tooth.
Costs and coverage for bone grafting
Your graft's cost depends on its type, how much bone needs rebuilding and whether we place it during implant surgery. After your new patient exam, you'll get a written estimate at your consultation, with no pressure to go ahead.
Spread payments with 0% financing for up to 24 months or a longer Beautifi plan with smaller payments. We work with Sun Life Financial, Canada Life, Alberta Blue Cross, Green Shield Canada, and the Canadian Dental Care Plan.

Frequently asked questions
Age alone rarely rules out a bone graft. Your general health matters more, since smoking, uncontrolled diabetes, and some medications can slow healing. At your first visit, we review your health history and bone levels, and if a graft isn't the right fit, we'll explain other options, such as a bridge or denture.
Usually, a scan tells us. At your first visit, we check your gums and bite, and if an implant is in your plan, a CBCT scan shows your bone's height and width in 3D. We take that scan only when needed and bill it separately. At a follow-up consultation, we explain whether you need a graft and what it involves.
Local anaesthetic numbs the area, so you shouldn't feel pain during the procedure. If surgery makes you nervous, we offer IV sedation and oral sedation at our Edmonton office, along with blankets, pillows, and headphones. Afterwards, you might have swelling and tenderness for a few days, which pain relievers and cold packs usually ease.
A bone graft usually heals for a few months before an implant goes in, depending on its type and size. A socket graft or small repair often heals faster than a sinus lift or larger rebuild. When your existing bone can hold the implant steady, the graft and implant can go in together.
We can't quote an accurate price before seeing your scan, since the graft type and the amount of bone to rebuild both change the cost. You'll receive a written estimate before treatment starts. Payment options for Edmonton dental bone grafting include 0% financing for up to 24 months and longer-term Beautifi plans.
