  1. The Thermoflex bruxism guard must be heated with warm tap water for approximately 1 minute prior to insertion.

  2. While the guard is warming, you should  brush and floss to ensure that your teeth are clean before inserting the appliance.

  3. Always ensure to push the guard into the correct position using your fingers and thumbs on both sides of the splint. Never bite it into place.

  4. When removing the appliance, always reach to the back of your mouth with both hands and gently remove the splint. Pull down/up on it, depending if the guard was made to fit the top or bottom teeth.

  5. The guard should always be brushed clean using a toothbrush, water and a bit of toothpaste or a drop. Brush and rinse the appliance after each wear period, and be sure to store it in the case that was provided for you.

  6. Occasionally, to prevent tartar build-up, the guard should be soaked during the day in a denture cleaner solution.

  7. Always be sure to keep this appliance away from pets. Dogs have a tendency to chew these appliances, and can destroy them in the process.

An essix retainer is a custom clear retainer that snaps over all of the upper or lower teeth. The essix retainer is often used to temporarily restore one or several missing teeth. The essix retainer also helps maintain the teeth in one position. Following is information and helpful hints concerning the essix retainer.

  1. The essix retainer should be removed for cleaning and eating only.

  2. The essix retainer can be worn for sports unless you have a custom mouth guard which should be used instead.

  3. The essix should be worn at night to maintain tooth position.

  4. Any speech changes such as lisping will also go after a number of days.

  5. Clean the essix retainer with cold water and a soft tooth brush. It is best not to use tooth paste as the retainers will become scratched. If there is a bad odour they can be soaked in Listerine mouth wash. Denture cleaners or bleach should not be used.

  6. When the essix retainer is not being worn please keep safe in the retainer container that is supplied

  7. Keep away from pets and small children.

  8. Keep away from heat-such as hot water, direct sunlight, radiators as they will distort.
